Steven Cravis is a pianist and composer who first came to our attention via the web game Bubble Bees, produced by Ferry Halim, available on the website orisinal.com.

The charmingly crafted game, which is very characteristic of the Orisinal style, involves trying to encapsulate bumble bees in bubbles to score points before the time runs out.

One of the most endearing and memorable aspects of the game is the backing soundtrack, a piano piece in the New Age genre called Through the Kaleidoscope by Steven Cravis. The buoyant mood of the piece fits the vibe of the game perfectly.

The piece is from Cravis’ sophomore solo piano album, The Sound of Light, which was released 1995 and was praised for the complexity of its pieces.

Here is a video of Steven playing his composition in 2017, at the Whisperings All-Star Concert in Los Angeles.

The piece has a lively tempo, and is in D-flat major, meaning there are 5 flats in the key signature which makes it slightly tricky to play. But once mastered, it is a fun and enjoyable tune.
