Church bells

Use the keyboard above to play the church bells. You can click on the keys with your mouse, use your QWERTY keyboard, or if you’re using a touch device, tap on the keys with your finger.

Alternatively, if you have a MIDI compatible USB device, you can play the keyboard with that too.

One of the most recognisable sequences of notes in the world is called the Westminster Quarters, and consists of variations on 4 notes: E, G♯, F♯, and B. These are the notes that ring out from Elizabeth Tower in London, which houses the bell known as Big Ben, every 15 minutes. The variation that is played is slightly different for each quarter hour that passes.

Modern pieces of music that feature Church Bells

One of the most famous popular pieces of music which features church bells is the Christmas song Don’t Let the Bells End by British Glam Rock band, The Darkness. The instrument is popular in many other Christmas hits, such as Jona Lewie, Stop The Cavalry, where the bells feature as Jona sings “Wish I was at home, for Christmas”.

Let us know in the comments section your favourite songs which feature the instrument.
